Our slate-blue 1987 VW Westfalia Syncro is ready for its next chapter. Four-wheel drive, the classic Westfalia camper layout, and an extensive collection of upgrades for travelling and camping throughout the seasons.
We bought it on Vancouver Island and have invested substantially in its mechanical work and camping equipment. The main build-out was approximately $33,000, including the GoWesty engine, installation and many of the upgrades below. Further repairs and troubleshooting followed.
The GoWesty 2.7L engine is a highlight—a beautifully built engine. Its warranty registration records installation by Werke1 in November 2016 at 224,740 km. Early installation issues were subsequently addressed, and Grant Gunn corrected the shifter installation and alignment.

VanWonder has also carried out road-trip preparation, repairs and troubleshooting. I have supporting paperwork and correspondence for parts of the van’s history, including the engine installation.
Known items to discuss The air-filter housing was damaged during a service visit. It is temporarily secured with wire and needs replacing. There has also been a slow initial crank and a clutch concern; these should be assessed and discussed before purchase. Current mileage and the latest mechanical condition will be provided to interested buyers.
This is a nearly 40-year-old camper with a substantial history, upgrades and ongoing maintenance needs. We’re looking for someone who appreciates a Syncro and wants to continue using and caring for it.
